Memory cafes for caregivers of people with dementia and their loved ones will meet later this month in Marlborough, Sudbury
By Douglas Flynn / February 15, 2017

Pleasantries Adult Day and Consulting Services continues to provide support to those caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's or another dementia through its "Create A Better Day Café" and its partnership with the Sudbury Senior Center and co-sponsors Traditions of Wayland and Right at Home for "The Comfort Food Caring Café."

The Create A Better Day Cafe is held monthly on the fourth Sunday of each month, with this month's session coming on February 28 from 1-3 p.m. at Pleasantries (195 Reservoir Street, Marlborough, MA). This session will feature entertainment from guitar player and singer P.E. James.

The Comfort Food Caring Cafe, meanwhile, now features lunch and is held from 12-2 p.m. on the fourth Friday of each month. The next meeting for the Comfort Food Caring Cafe will be on Monday, February 27 at the Sudbury Senior Center (40 Fairbank Road, Sudbury). James will also be on hand to provide entertainment for that Cafe.

These Cafés offer an opportunity for people caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or other dementia a chance to get some needed relief while still spending time with your loved one and other caregivers in a relaxed and welcoming setting. The Cafés encourage socialization with other caregivers and loved ones where you can just be yourself. It provides an opportunity to get out with your loved one and have an enjoyable morning or afternoon.

Pleasantries owner and director Tammy Pozerycki, MA, CADDCT, CDP, describes the Café as “a time to step out of the daily routine, leave the disease at the door, and enjoy a positive experience in a supportive environment. The afternoon will consist of entertainment, conversation, music, arts, games, refreshments, and most importantly, laughter.”

There is no cost to participate in the program, which is open to anyone at any stage of the disease process who is accompanied by friends, family and loved ones.

The Create A Better Day Café is held on the fourth Sunday of each month at Pleasantries Adult Day and Consulting Services (195 Reservoir Street, Marlborough, MA). Space is limited, so please RSVP by calling Tammy at 508-481-0809 or emailing tammy@pleasantriesads.com. Due to the possibility of cancellation due to inclement weather or illness, please call prior to attending and listen to voice message for any updates.

The Comfort Food Caring Café is held on the fourth Monday of each month at the Sudbury Senior Center (40 Fairbank Road, Sudbury, MA). It is facilitated by Information and Referral Specialist Anne Manning, LMHC and Pozerycki. Please RSVP by calling 978-443-3055.
