See the impact the Savvy Caregiver program makes and learn about the next offering of the workshop in Southborough in July
By Douglas Flynn / June 1, 2017

Are you caring for a loved one with dementia and struggling with the complexity, strain and stress of being a caregiver? We can help.

The Savvy Caregiver Program is a FREE six-session training series for family and friends who are active caregivers caring for a person with Alzheimer's or another dementia.

Taking care of a person living with Alzheimer’s or related dementia is specialized work. To do this work successfully, caregivers need special skills, knowledge and a positive attitude that helps them to care for themselves.

Become an expert in caregiving for someone with Alzheimer’s or related dementias.

Savvy Caregiver will help you:
- Understand the impact of dementia on both you and the person you are caring for.
- Learn the skills you need to manage daily life.
- Take control and set goals.
- Communicate more effectively.
- Strengthen family resources.
- Feel better about your caregiving.
- Take care of you.

Check out this video testimonial from one participant detailing the benefits of the program.

"I am so thankful for this caregiver program because it has allowed me to improve the quality of my life by giving myself permission to reclaim my life," says Mary Ann in the video. "You have to save yourself. If you are not a good caregiver, if you are burned out, if you are depressed, you are of no use to your loved one. ... I just can't thank the staff of Savvy Caregiver enough because it made all the difference in the world."

That video is courtesy of the Healthy Living Center of Excellence and Elder Services of Merrimack Valley, which oversee the implementation of the program in Massachusetts and train instructors to lead the workshop.

Caregiving MetroWest Program Manager Douglas Flynn and BayPath Elder Services Caregiver Specialist Alicia Rego were certified earlier this year and recently completed their first workshop in Hudson. They will be leading another workshop in Southborough beginning on July 11 at the
Southborough Senior Center (9 Cordaville Road, Southborough, MA). It will be held on Tuesdays from 9:30-11:30 a.m. from July 11 to August 15.

To register for that workshop, call Southborough Senior Center Program Coordinator Peg Leonard or Outreach Coordinator Cynthia Beard at 508-229-4453. You can also learn more about the program by calling Douglas Flynn at 508-573-7204.
