Whitney Place offering free workshop for caregivers on March 28 in Natick
By Douglas Flynn / March 8, 2018
Whitney Place at Natick is offering a free workshop for caregivers on Wednesday, March 28.

“The Right Stuff: A Caregiver’s Personalized Toolkit” will run from 5:30-7:30 p.m. that evening, with light refreshments and a presentation by Diane Tonelli, OTR/L, MHA, CDP, CADDCT, the clinical director of SALMON Health and Retirement’s Tapestry Program for Memory Care.

Caregivers for those who are living with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia need patience and attention, and the people they care for are highly individual in their likes and dislikes—as well as what causes them discomfort.

Waiting for appointments, dining out, visiting with others at their homes or needing to spend an overnight in the hospital can all be made easier and smoother if a caregiver is prepared with positive solutions at hand.

This special workshop features expert guides helping caregivers in putting together a valuable addition to effective caregiving: a personalized, portable toolkit built with things and ideas meant to calm, comfort and create constructive engagement for the unique person for whom you are the caregiver.

The program will start with an overview, discussing triggers and comfort items; work on your loved one’s personalized plan; and create their own profile worksheet, composed of strategies and suggested comfort articles from it. After that, it will provide you with a backpack sporting the Tapestry logo, along with some items to begin building your toolkit, all toward making caregiving easier.

Please note: Caregivers are welcome to bring the people they care for, who can participate in programming provided by our trained staff in a separate area during the workshop time period.

Whitney Place Assisted Living and Memory Care is located at 3 Vision Drive, Natick, MA 01760. Reservations for the program are required, and can be made by calling 508-655-5000.
