Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's Disease
By DebraMcDonagh / June 19, 2019

The following is the mission statement on the "About" page of www.alz.org

"The Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support, and research. Our mission is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected, and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health."

This month's caregiving tip is focused on the "support for all affected" portion of the above mission statement. Caring for someone with the disease is a highly complex undertaking and can often be overwhelming. Additionally, as Alzheimer's advances, it affects the the type of care that is required.

The Alzheimer's Association offers comprehensive information to help you as a caregiver. Topics covered include: what to expect in each phase, your role as a care partner, understanding the emotions you may feel, how to take care of yourself while caregiving, ways to help the person with dementia live well.

By understanding what the symptoms in each phase of the disease, it will help you develop a care plan appropriate to each level of progression and how you can offer support during each one. Click below to view the corresponding info.
