Create a Better Day Cafe welcomes caregivers and their loved ones to next session on Sunday July 26
By Douglas Flynn / July 21, 2015

The Create A Better Day Café will hold its next session this Sunday, July 26, in Marlborough.

The Café offers an opportunity for people caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or other dementia a chance to get some needed relief while still spending time with your loved one and other caregivers in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

Held at Pleasantries Adult Day and Consulting Services (195 Reservoir Street, Marlborough, MA), the Café encourages socialization with other caregivers and loved ones where you can just be yourself. It provides an opportunity to get out with your loved one and have an enjoyable afternoon.

Pleasantries owner and director Tammy Pozerycki describes the Café as “a time to step out of the daily routine, leave the disease at the door, and enjoy a positive experience in a supportive environment. The afternoon will consist of entertainment, conversation, music, arts, games, refreshments, and most importantly, laughter.”

There is no cost to participate in the program, which is open to anyone at any stage of the disease process who is accompanied by friends, family and loved ones.

The next session for the Café will be on Sunday, July 26 from 1-3 p.m. and the Cafe is hoping to have a pet therapy visit from Kodiac and Athena, Burmese Mountain Dogs through TDI (Therapy Dogs International).

Also being offered at this month's Cafe:  A Reiki practitioner who discovered and worked with Reiki for the benefit of her mother during her later stages of Alzheimer's Disease and brings a compassionate, knowledgeable approach and personal experience to those with Alzheimer's Disease and their caregivers. Reiki aids in relaxation, can help relieve aches and pains, and has been shown to assist in mild cognitive impairment and caregiver burnout. She will offer short chair sessions done in a comfortable chair in a gentle, restful atmosphere specially prepared to maximize relaxation and peacefulness.
