Are you Prepared?

After the devastating hurricanes that have recently hit parts of the US, it has me thinking about being prepared for an emergency. Unfortunately disaster can happen anywhere and anytime so it is in our best interest to be prepared for the “just in case”. 

To start it is a good idea to always have certain items in you and your loved ones home such as extra batteries, flashlight, first aid kits and extra nonperishable food items. 

Do you have a smart phone? There is an emergency alert app through MEMA that gives you location specific emergency information if/when necessary. You can also call 2-1-1 during a disaster to receive non-emergency information.  

How about simply having a plan within your family? Having a plan for everyone to know what they would do in an emergency, perhaps a meeting place, how to find each other and how to communicate can be all great to talk about and even have written somewhere.
