HESSCO Caregiver Day of R&R offers resources and relaxation for area caregivers
Because of the extensive responsibilities that come with caring for a loved one, family caregivers don’t get too many chances to take a well-deserved break, relax and replenish themselves. For the past decade, HESSCO Elder Services has been doing something about that.
Next month, HESSCO is holding its 10th annual Caregiver Day of R&R, which in this case stands for Resources and Relaxation.
This year’s event will take place on Tuesday, September 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lake Pearl Luciano’s (299 Creek Street, Wrentham, MA).
The Caregiver Day is a conference for caregivers of elders, disabled adults and grandparents raising grandchildren. It will feature educational breakout sessions for caregivers and a relaxation room with chair message, Reiki and other relaxing therapies for caregivers.
The workshop options for the first session are “How to Approach the Topic of Driving with Elders,” “How to Hold a Family Meeting” and How to Communicate Effectively.” The second session’s options are “How to Access Benefits for Care Recipients,” “How to Balance Work and Caregiving” and “Support Group for Male Caregivers.”
For more information or to register for the event, contact HESSCO Family Caregiver Specialist at kheuwold@hessco.org or 781-784-4944 x238. You can also go directly to the online registration form at www.hessco.org/caregiver-rr-registration.
Admission for the event is $15 for caregivers, which includes breakfast and lunch.
HESSCO is a designated Massachusetts Aging Services Access Point (ASAP) and federal Area Agency on Aging (AAA) covering 12 towns in southern Norfolk County, including the MetroWest communities of Medfield, Millis and Norfolk. The Caregiver Day of R&R is open to all caregivers, however. You do not have to live in HESSCO’s coverage area or receive services from HESSCO.
Caregivers from throughout MetroWest and beyond are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity for a day to relax, recharge and even pick up some valuable information to help you in your caregiving role
