A message from Julie Nowak, BayPath’s LGBTQ+ Initiative Coordinator:
“Hi Friends! We’re very excited to tell you that our Pathways Café, collaboration with the Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School, is up and running and wonderful!
Our first gathering, warmly welcomed and VERY well fed by the Culinary Arts students and chefs, was really something special. Many of our guests traveled from several towns away to try out our new café! As they were chatting over coffee and pastries, they were joined by students from the GSA (Gender-Sexuality Alliance) and some of the Health Tech juniors to whom we’ve recently brought our LGBT Elders Cultural Competency Training…
…and something magical happened! The students politely started to settle in at a nearby table, and the older folx just stood up and shoved tables together to quickly create a huge community table for 24 people, and kicked off what became a vibrant intergenerational conversation throughout the meal!
We had hoped this would eventually be the nature of the Pathways Café… but to see it happen immediately, organically, and to listen to the older folx sharing memories from often-hidden LGBTQ+ history, and the younger folx eagerly offering insights and questions and their generation’s innovations… that was just amazing!”
