Wellist offers information and resources for caregivers in Boston and beyond
Two and a half years ago, the MetroWest Health Foundation recognized the glaring need for a single, comprehensive source of information, resources and supports for family caregivers in the region. They teamed with BayPath Elder Services, Inc. to address that need, and the result was the CaregivingMetroWest.org website you are on right now.
But they weren’t the only ones to identify the necessity to address unmet needs of area caregivers. In Boston, Wellist launched this week with another online resource designed to help family caregivers in the Greater Boston area.
Wellist partnered with the Massachusetts General Hospital Caner Center and other hospitals and healthcare companies to create on online resource that “aims to make life outside the hospital easier during times of challenge.”
Wellist offers over 20 categories of support services with over 2,500 local organizations in its database.
“The hospitals had lists [of resources] already,” said Wellist’s Jason Bhardwaj. “We did our own searching on top of that, and called each one to vet them.”
Much of the initial focus of the site is centered on resources and services for cancer patients and their caregivers, but there is information for people dealing with all kinds of health conditions and Wellist is working on expanding its listings.
The Boston-based organization is focused primarily on services located in the city and its immediate suburbs, but does extend into the MetroWest area with resources for Medfield, Natick, Needham, Wayland and Wellesley among other communities. There are also numerous national services that could be helpful to caregivers outside of that area.
