The ASAP information and referral department can provide valuable guidance and assistance throughout your caregiving journey. Your town’s Council on Aging is another essential tool to help you understand and access available resources for your loved one.

Community Groups

Neighbor Brigade – Norfolk chapter

Neighbor Brigade is a non-profit organization that establishes and mobilizes community-based networks of volunteers to provide immediate and free assistance to neighbors experiencing sudden crises such as cancer treatment, illness, accident or other tragedy. Neighbor Brigade volunteers provide critical support services such as home-delivered meals, transportation to and from medical appointments and home maintenance help.

Home Delivered Meals

Elder Nutrition Program, HESSCO Elder Services

HESSCO Elder Services’ nutrition program operates a Meals on Wheels program serving the south Norfolk County area. Home delivered hot lunch meals are available five days a week to people 60 years of age or older, and their spouses, who have limited mobility and are unable to prepare meals because they lack the physical, emotional or cognitive ability to attend a meal site or prepare a nutritious meal.

HESSCO Elder Services’ nutrition program operates hot lunch programs serving individuals 60 years and older, and their spouses, who live in the south Norfolk County area. A confidential donation of $3.00 for each meal is suggested.

Any resident 60 or older can use this transportation. GATRA will take client within 15 miles of their home. Application must be completed before transportation is provided. Applications available at Council on Aging, HESSCO or at www.hessco.org. Cost for ID card once application is approved is $3. Suggested donation $1.25-$5 each way.

Miles for Health

GATRA’s Miles for Health program is shared long distance medical transportation serving seniors and people with disabilities in the towns of Franklin, Foxboro, Norfolk, and Wrentham.

Reservations are taken Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. 48 hours advanced notice is required. Boston Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Appointments must be made between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. All Other Trips: All other long distance medical trips, such as Burlington, Framingham, Newton-Wellesley and Worcester, will be scheduled for Wednesdays. Appointments must be made between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
